Dr. S. Palaniappan
Tamil Philologist & Cultural Historian
Dr. Palaniappan is a distinguished scholar specializing in Tamil literature and cultural history. His groundbreaking research has reshaped understanding of key concepts in Tamil bhakti traditions, including his seminal work on the correct interpretation of the term 'Alvar'.
He has published extensively on the bhakti movement, Cankam poetry, the Tevaram, and the Nalayirat Tivviyap Pirapantam, as well as ancient and medieval Tamil social history. His work documenting the participation of a Muslim classical musician in the Tanjavur temple under Rajaraja I challenges conventional narratives of South Indian cultural history.
